Ace Combat 8 Sets Steam Record With 52,694 Players
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has set a new series record on Steam, peaking at 52,694 concurrent players.
The milestone came on October 3, a day after the game’s official release on October 2 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It followed three days of early access.
The figure is nearly four times the previous record of 13,758 concurrent players set by Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown when it came to PC in 2019.
The game holds a Very Positive rating on Steam from more than 5,755 user reviews, suggesting strong early reception from players.
It is also Bandai Namco’s third-biggest Steam opening ever, behind Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon and Digimon Story: Time Stranger.
The launch was not without controversy. Bandai Namco apologised for misleading store wording about the Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War pre-order bonus, which cannot be launched as a standalone app on PC and must run through Ace Combat 8. The publisher said it is exploring possible fixes.
