Snoop Dogg hosts 2026 VMAs as Madonna leads with 11 nods
The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards aired live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, with Snoop Dogg hosting the ceremony. It was the first time the VMAs returned to the West Coast since 2017.
Madonna opened the show and led the field with 11 nominations, including artist of the year and song of the year for "Bring Your Love." Taylor Swift followed with nine nominations and received the first MTV VMA Artist Director Honors award.
The show was simulcast on CBS and MTV, with streaming on Paramount+. Nirvana received the Video Vanguard award, and confirmed performers included Shaboozey, Gunna, LISA, RAYE and Yung Lean. Madonna's opening set was her first live VMA performance in 23 years, tied to her 2026 album Confessions II.
The VMAs celebrate the top songs and videos chosen by fans. With Madonna's big comeback night and Swift's new directorial honour, the 2026 ceremony aimed to draw both longtime viewers and younger fans back to live music television.
