Finland's security service has warned that the country's defence industry and Ukraine-support logistics are now in the crosshairs of Russian sabotage efforts.

Teemu Liikkanen, head of counterintelligence at Supo, told state broadcaster Yle on September 28 that threat indicators climbed over the summer. He said there was no sign of imminent danger but urged preparedness, adding there is no reason to panic.

The warning follows reports that Russia's GRU military intelligence deployed more than 20 million Telegram advertisements in the first half of 2026 offering payment for arson and sabotage across at least 20 countries. Polish prosecutors recently said Russian intelligence was suspected of ordering the arson of a Starlink ground station.

President Alexander Stubb has separately urged Finns to mentally prepare for possible sabotage. An April 2026 advisory confirmed the GRU had compromised Finnish routers to build covert access networks inside the country.

Officials said companies in the defence sector have been asked to review their security. The government is also working with NATO allies to share intelligence on sabotage plots.
