Jackson’s Thriller Jacket Heads to Abu Dhabi Auction

Four of Michael Jackson’s most iconic stage pieces, including his Thriller jacket and the rhinestone glove from Motown 25, will go under the hammer at Julien’s Auctions in Abu Dhabi on December 7.
The headline lot is the black and candy-red leather jacket Jackson wore in the groundbreaking 1983 Thriller music video. One of only two jackets made for the production, it is the only one worn by Jackson in scenes where he does not appear in zombie makeup. Its estimate is available on request.
Also offered is the rhinestone-studded glove Jackson wore for his legendary 1983 Motown 25 performance of Billie Jean, where he unveiled the moonwalk. Estimated at 600,000 to 800,000 dollars, it returns to auction for the first time since Julien’s sold it for a then-record 430,000 dollars in 2009.
The sale includes black Florsheim loafers worn during Thriller filming and rehearsals, estimated at 30,000 to 50,000 dollars, and loafers worn in Motown 25 rehearsals at 60,000 to 80,000 dollars.
The Michael Jackson: The Fashion Legacy evening auction takes place at Rosewood Abu Dhabi as part of the auction house’s inaugural Celebrity and Pop Culture Experience.
