US Natural Gas Output Hits Record in August

US natural gas production is on track for a record 122.5 billion cubic feet per day in 2026, about 3.4 percent higher than the previous record set last year, according to the Energy Information Administration.
Lower-48 dry gas production averaged a record 111.5 billion cubic feet a day in August, beating July's previous record. The American Gas Association says total dry gas output set a new all-time monthly record in August and a new daily record on August 31.
The growth is concentrated in the Permian region of Texas and New Mexico and the Haynesville region of Louisiana and Texas. The EIA expects Permian gas output to average 29.2 billion cubic feet a day in 2026, up 6 percent, largely as associated gas from oil drilling.
Abundant supply keeps US prices low: October Henry Hub futures fell 2.5 percent to $2.86 per MMBtu. At the same time, US LNG exports averaged 17.4 billion cubic feet a day in the first half of 2026, up 23 percent, as Europe pays about 25 percent more for gas amid tight supply.
