Jio adds 2.4 million users in August, Airtel 2.1 million: TRAI
Reliance Jio added nearly 2.40 million wireless subscribers in August, the most of any operator. Bharti Airtel was second with about 2.11 million additions, TRAI data showed on Monday.
Jio’s wireless base rose to 508.43 million at the end of August from 506.03 million in July. Airtel’s base grew to 491.60 million from 489.49 million.
Vodafone Idea added about 506,000 subscribers during the month. State-run BSNL gained nearly 493,000 users. MTNL lost about 5,900 subscribers.
Total wireless subscriptions in India rose to 1,312.25 million at the end of August, a monthly growth of 0.46 per cent. Urban subscriptions grew 0.70 per cent while rural subscriptions rose 0.13 per cent. Private operators held 92.75 per cent of the wireless market.
Airtel had the highest share of active users. TRAI said 99.01 per cent of its wireless base was active on the peak date. Machine-to-machine connections stood at 14.05 crore, with Airtel holding a 61.25 per cent share.
