Tesla Q3 Deliveries Beat Estimates at 486,532 Vehicles

Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter, beating Wall Street’s expectations. Analysts had forecast 461,974 deliveries, according to the company’s own survey of 24 analysts.
The number was down 2.1 percent from the record 497,099 delivered in the same quarter last year. That record was set during a rush to buy before US electric vehicle tax credits expired. Deliveries rose 1.3 percent from the second quarter’s 480,126.
Almost all deliveries were Model 3 and Model Y cars. The company produced 464,391 vehicles in the quarter, fewer than it sold.
Tesla’s energy business grew too. It deployed 13.7 gigawatt-hours of battery storage, up 9.6 percent from a year ago. That was below the 15.9 gigawatt-hours analysts expected.
Tesla shares jumped about 4.8 percent on the news. Investors had feared a bigger drop in sales.
The company reports full third-quarter results on October 21. It is expected to update investors on its robotaxi plans and the cheaper Model Y.
