Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom is in talks with Adani Group, Reliance Industries, Jindal and NTPC for a major push into India’s nuclear power sector, according to reports.

The discussions come as India opens up its nuclear energy sector to private players, aiming to add significant atomic capacity to meet growing power demand and climate goals. Rosatom is among the world’s largest suppliers of nuclear reactors.

Adani Power has already said it is evaluating nuclear technologies while awaiting policy clarity from the government. Private entry into nuclear generation would mark a major shift for a sector long dominated by state-run entities.

India targets 100 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2047 under its Viksit Bharat plan, a steep climb from the current 8.8 gigawatts. Foreign technology partnerships are expected to play a central role in that expansion.

Industry watchers say Rosatom’s talks signal strong foreign interest in India’s nuclear expansion. The company’s reactors are already operating in several countries, and a deal would bring proven technology to Indian projects.
