State-run NTPC will add 153.94 megawatts of solar capacity to its portfolio from midnight on October 1, the company said in a regulatory filing on Monday.

The capacity comes from the second and third parts of the Kalasar solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan — 73.06 MW and 80.88 MW respectively — and forms part of the larger 650 MW solar installation developed by NTPC Renewable Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary, under the 500 MW round-the-clock project awarded by REMCL.

With this addition, the NTPC group's total installed capacity will rise to 11,212.51 MW, up from 11,058.57 MW. The first part of the Kalasar project, of 81.34 MW, had already started commercial operations on September 26.

The expansion comes as NTPC accelerates its renewable energy push to meet its target of 60 GW of green capacity by 2032. Round-the-clock renewable projects, which combine solar with storage or other sources to supply steady power, are a key part of this strategy as distribution companies seek cleaner firm power.

Shares of NTPC have been in focus as investors track the company's growing renewables pipeline alongside its core thermal business.
