TCS to Take Over Best Buy’s India Technology Centre

Tata Consultancy Services will take over Best Buy’s technology centre in India. The US retailer’s Global Capability Centre will move to TCS under a multi-year agreement.
The announcement was made on October 1. TCS plans to turn the centre into an AI-native capability centre. Teams will redesign work processes and build AI applications for Best Buy.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The number of employees moving to TCS was also not shared. Best Buy India staff will merge into TCS’s global organisation.
Krishnan Ramanujam, head of TCS’s consumer business, called it an AI-native capability engine. Best Buy’s technology head Ahrey Smith said the India team had advanced the company’s priorities.
The deal follows a wider trend of IT firms buying captive centres. HCLTech bought Guardian Life’s India operations in July. Infosys bought Danske Bank’s India IT centre earlier.
The acquisition comes as many global capability centres in India struggle to scale beyond a maturity plateau. For service firms like TCS, buying GCCs offers a way to grow revenue. Ahrey Smith said the partnership offers employees chances to keep learning and growing.
