Sitharaman Pushes Global Economic Ties at G20 Meet in Asheville
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pushed for deeper trade, investment and financial cooperation with global partners during bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, United States.
She met World Bank President Ajay Banga and welcomed the speedy processing of the bank's 1.5 billion dollar Development Policy Financing. The two discussed a bigger role for the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency in deepening bond markets and mobilising private capital.
Sitharaman also held talks with IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva on the global economic outlook and India's growth trajectory. Georgieva appreciated India's strong economic performance, the Finance Ministry said.
She also had a bilateral meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and backed the US growth agenda for the G20 financial track, saying global economic imbalances need to be addressed.
The G20 finance meet is laying the groundwork for the leaders' summit that US President Donald Trump will host in Miami in December.
