DoorDash to Pay $131.5M in Record NYC Worker Settlement

DoorDash has agreed to pay New York City $131.5 million to settle an investigation that found delivery workers were underpaid, unpaid or paid late. The deal, announced September 22 by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection, is the largest worker settlement in NYC history.

More than $115 million will go directly to affected workers, with $16.7 million covering civil penalties and costs. Workers do not need to file claims — the city identified them through DoorDash records. The median payout is about $48, though some could receive more than $10,000.

The investigation examined 152 million payment transactions and 110 million working hours. Violations included canceled trips, cross-city-limit deliveries and logged-in-but-unassigned time excluded from pay.

'When a worker earns a wage, they deserve to be paid that wage — not tomorrow, not after a lawsuit, but on time and in full,' Mamdani said. DoorDash CEO Tony Xu said: 'We screwed up. Our mistakes meant some NYC Dashers were underpaid or paid late.'

The city's delivery-worker minimum pay is $22.13 an hour, excluding tips. Under the deal, DoorDash must send the city monthly pay data for three years. First worker notices go out in late October.
