Daimler Trucks makes India anchor of new 42-country region

Daimler Trucks has grouped India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific into a single customer region, with India as its anchor.

The ISEAA region spans 42 countries and nearly 2.8 billion people. It brings together markets that were previously managed separately under one customer-focused structure.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles will lead the region. The company makes BharatBenz trucks and buses at its 400-acre plant in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, where it employs more than 4,000 people.

Alongside the announcement, the company reaffirmed an additional investment of about Rs 4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. This takes its cumulative investment in India to more than Rs 14,500 crore.

Daimler India has delivered over 230,000 BharatBenz trucks and buses since 2012. It is now preparing its portfolio with advanced driver assistance systems and wider use of automated manual transmission technology.

Commercial vehicle demand across the region is expected to grow by more than 5 per cent a year.
