Two youths died of suspected chemical suffocation in a public toilet in Goregaon East, Mumbai, in the early hours of Sept 27, 2026. Prabhakar Dhanivar, 24, and Bhavin Desai, 18, were declared brought dead at Trauma Care Hospital.

The toilet is opposite the Parsi Panchayat Gate near Mrunaltai Bridge at Ram Mandir East. Police believe a chemical leaked from ‘Sai Electroplate’, a metal polishing shop owned by Navinchandra Chawda. Vanrai police have filed an FIR against the owner and staff on charges of culpable homicide. One person has been detained, and the factory and toilet block were sealed.

DCP Gajanan Rajmane of Zone 12 confirmed the leak came from the electroplating shop. The exact chemical has not been identified, and the cause of death is described as suspected chemical suffocation pending post-mortem and toxicology reports. Guilt has not been proven.

Their friend Rohit Vairagi said the two did not return to the group after dinner. When 15 to 20 calls went unanswered, friends found one youth unconscious and broke open the second locked door.

What happens next: forensic teams are examining how the chemical reached the toilet, and the probe could widen if more violations surface.
