ShinyHunters hacker detained in Jordan, helping FBI

A suspected member of the ShinyHunters hacking group has been detained in Jordan and is cooperating with the FBI to help track down fellow hackers, Reuters reported on Saturday. Saif al-Din Khader, known online as ‘Rey’, was taken into custody by Jordanian authorities on Tuesday, three people familiar with the matter told the news agency. Two sources said he is now helping the FBI and international law enforcement identify other members of the extortion group. The detention follows ShinyHunters’ claimed breach of FBI systems in September. The group told BleepingComputer it used an alleged Oracle PeopleSoft zero-day to reach FBI-managed cloud systems, and claimed to have stolen between 2TB and 3TB of data on current and former FBI employees. The FBI confirmed it was investigating the claims. The FBI declined to comment on the Jordan detention but said it ‘will spare no resource in bringing each of the responsible individuals to justice.’ Dutch police arrested a 24-year-old Amsterdam man on September 15 in a related investigation. ShinyHunters’ public channels and dark web site have gone silent in recent days.
