Centre Clears Rs 5,547 Crore MSP Procurement For Farmers

The Centre has approved procurement of pulses and oilseeds worth Rs 5,547.99 crore at Minimum Support Price under the Price Support Scheme for the kharif marketing season 2026-27 in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved the plan on September 30. The move aims to protect farmers from falling market prices and ensure remunerative returns, the Agriculture Ministry said. Chouhan said the government is working to make procurement mechanisms more transparent and accessible for farmers.
Uttar Pradesh gets the largest share at Rs 3,992.57 crore, covering 4.66 lakh tonnes of tur and 6,250 tonnes of moong. Karnataka’s allocation is Rs 1,107 crore for soybean, moong and sunflower, while Telangana gets Rs 448.42 crore for soybean and moong, according to official data.
Nafed and NCCF will carry out the purchases as nodal agencies, and payments will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts. The government said the procurement will also reduce dependence on imports of pulses and edible oils. From this year, the Centre has allowed Nafed and NCCF to begin purchases without waiting for the state’s request.
