Railways’ non-interlocking work at Rajendra Setu near Mokama has disrupted train services on the Patna-Kolkata-Delhi routes. The block runs until October 4 to integrate the new double-line rail bridge.

On September 28, about 21 trains were cancelled, according to one report. However, the Indian Express, cited by CurlyTales, put the figure at 35 cancelled and 33 diverted for the day. Diversions hit Patna-Kolkata, Sealdah-Jaynagar and Delhi links.

Trains cancelled included the Howrah-Jaynagar Express, the Sealdah-Jaynagar Gangasagar Express and the Kolkata-Darbhanga Maithili Express. The Anand Vihar-Bhagalpur Garib Rath was diverted via the Grand Chord.

The project was sanctioned in the 2015-16 Rail Budget at Rs 1,491.47 crore. It will commission a new bridge parallel to the existing Rajendra Bridge over the Ganga near Mokama.

New bridge operations are expected from October 5, after a CRS inspection on October 3-4. Trains will then run at up to 90 kmph, against the 40-50 kmph restriction on the old bridge. The disruption is temporary, but passengers should check train status before travelling this week.
