The Trump administration has scouted Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming as a possible site for a Major League Baseball game. The idea came from the league itself, the White House confirmed on Saturday. MLB approached federal officials about hosting a game at a national park, citing the success of the Field of Dreams game in Iowa.

The Washington Post reported that National Park Service deputy director Frank Lands visited the park this week and looked at three potential locations. The White House stressed the project is not an administration priority. “This is not a Presidential directive, nor is it being directed by the White House.

It’s also not being driven by the Department of Interior,” its statement said. The Park Service has not granted a permit for any game. MLB called a national park game one of several ideas under consideration.

The 2027 schedule is already set, so any new site is unlikely before 2028. The idea drew quick backlash from environmental groups and Teton County commissioners over commercializing protected habitat. The debate raises a bigger question: how far commercial use of federal lands can go before conservation mandates are undermined.
