IIT-Bombay Professor Questioned in Student Death Case

Mumbai's Crime Branch recorded the statement of IIT-Bombay professor Suryanarayan Doolla in a questioning session lasting eight to 10 hours in connection with the death of student Sahil Wakode.
Wakode was found dead in his hostel room on the evening of September 18, hours after he was allegedly caught using his mobile phone to access ChatGPT during a mid-semester examination.
The Powai police registered an FIR against the professor based on a complaint by the student's father. The family has alleged harassment and caste-based discrimination, claims the professor has denied.
Investigators have recorded statements from around 40 people, including classmates, hostel staff and the student's parents. Police are examining CCTV footage from the examination hall and have sent electronic devices for forensic testing.
Officials said IIT-Bombay director Shireesh Kedare may also be called to record his statement. The institute has said no disciplinary action was taken against the student over the exam incident.
Maharashtra Congress leaders met the grieving family this week, and Rahul Gandhi earlier spoke to them by phone, assuring support in their pursuit of justice.
