Gas Blaze at IIT Bombay Campus Injures Five

Five people, including two children, were injured in a gas pipeline blaze at the IIT Bombay campus in Powai on Friday.
The fire broke out on the campus premises, triggering panic among residents. Emergency teams rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable.
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols on the campus. Authorities are examining how the gas leak occurred and whether maintenance lapses played a role.
IIT Bombay is one of India's premier educational institutions, and its Powai campus houses thousands of students, faculty and staff families. Gas pipelines supply cooking fuel to residential quarters across the campus.
Officials said an inquiry would be conducted to fix responsibility and prevent a repeat. Further details are awaited."" Campus authorities said the gas supply to the affected block was shut off as a precaution. Fire officials collected samples to determine the cause of the leak. Students and staff have been advised to report any smell of gas immediately.
