Mumbai property registrations hit 14-year September high

Mumbai recorded 12,622 property registrations in September 2026, the highest for the month in more than 14 years. The figure was up 5 percent from a year ago, according to a Knight Frank India report.
The data comes from the Maharashtra Department of Registration and Stamps. On a month-on-month basis, registrations rose 0.3 percent from 12,580 in August.
Stamp duty collections, however, fell 5 percent to Rs 1,227 crore from Rs 1,292 crore last September. The report said the drop reflects a shift in the transaction mix.
Festive buying drove the surge. During Ganesh Chaturthi, from September 14 to 25, the city saw 5,379 registrations, up 22 percent from last year. Festive stamp duty collections reached Rs 640 crore, up 32 percent.
Knight Frank India said the city’s residential market has maintained demand momentum. The festive quarter, with Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali ahead, is expected to keep homebuying strong. September’s tally reflected strong demand across key suburban micro-markets as the city enters the peak festive quarter, the report said.
