EV Sales Jump 74% in September to Record High

Electric vehicle sales in India hit an all-time record in September, jumping 74 percent from a year ago. FADA reported total sales of 3,33,634 units.
EV penetration reached about 13 percent of all vehicle sales, up from 10 percent. Electric two-wheelers led with 2,07,314 units, up 88.67 percent year-on-year.
Electric passenger vehicles nearly doubled to 36,108 units, growing 94.56 percent. Electric three-wheelers rose 40 percent to 86,024 units.
FADA CEO Giridhar said the growth is demand-led, not subsidy-led. Support from schemes like PM E-DRIVE has helped, but buyers are now choosing EVs on merit.
The record month confirms EVs are moving from niche to mainstream in India. Dealers say falling battery costs and wider charging networks are driving the surge.
Two-wheelers remain the biggest EV segment in India, helped by lower running costs and new models. Industry watchers expect sales to cross five million units in the next financial year if current trends hold.
