Delhi ACP’s additional DCP charge withheld amid harassment probe

The Delhi government has withheld the additional DCP charge assigned to ACP Vivek Bhagat pending a full inquiry into harassment allegations made by women journalists. Bhagat himself requested that the order be kept on hold until the inquiry is concluded.
In an October 5 order, the Delhi government had assigned the current duty charge of Additional DCP to 12 Selection Grade DANIPS officers. Following Bhagat's request, the order will be reissued for the remaining 11 officers.
A woman journalist has alleged that Bhagat touched her inappropriately and pushed her while she was filming the detention of an activist at a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar near Jantar Mantar on October 3. She filed a complaint at the Parliament Street police station.
Delhi Police said complaints from three women journalists have been transferred to the Crime Branch for an impartial inquiry. No FIR has been registered so far. Police have also arrested a man for allegedly creating and circulating an AI-generated poster tied to the incident.
The government clarified that the proposal for the additional charge was initiated on August 25, before the allegations surfaced, and described it as an interim administrative measure, not a regular promotion.
