BSE, NSE Shut Today for Gandhi Jayanti; Trade Resumes Monday

Indian stock markets are closed today for Gandhi Jayanti. Both the BSE and the NSE have suspended trading across all segments.
Equity, derivatives and currency segments are all shut. Commodity exchanges MCX and NCDEX are also closed for both sessions.
Trading will resume on Monday, October 5, after the weekend. It is the first trading holiday of October. The next is Dussehra on October 20.
The closure follows a weak session on Thursday. The Sensex fell 570.59 points to close at 71,909.70. The Nifty dropped 198.50 points to 22,421.95.
Auto stocks led the fall on Thursday. The Nifty Auto index dropped 3.46 per cent after weak September sales data. Foreign investors kept selling.
The rupee also weakened to a two-month low. It closed at 96.3150 against the dollar as global bond yields rose and oil prices stayed high.
The Nifty IT index was the only sectoral gainer on Thursday, rising 2.17 per cent. Broader markets also fell. The Nifty Midcap 100 dropped 1.01 per cent and the Smallcap 100 lost 0.97 per cent. Market breadth was weak, with far more stocks falling than rising. Analysts expect a cautious start on Monday.
