Guwahati Police have arrested seven people in connection with the alleged assault of a woman at a nightclub in the city’s Khanapara area. The arrests were made on October 4.

The incident took place around 2:30 AM on October 2 at The Locals Bar cum Restaurant. A video that spread on social media showed a woman being assaulted by a group of people inside the bar. She was then allegedly dragged by her hair and clothes toward the basement, where she was assaulted again and appeared semi-conscious.

Police examined the club’s CCTV footage to confirm the sequence of events. Officers said several of those involved were linked to the bar’s management and staff. The establishment was also found to be running past its permitted closing time of 12:30 AM.

Those arrested include the bar manager, the event manager, and the front office executive, along with four others. Police registered a suo motu case at Dispur police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

DCP East Tabu Ram Pegu said the probe is continuing. Police are still examining what triggered the dispute before the assault.
