OpenAI sets stage for DevDay 2026 with big AI reveals expected
OpenAI’s DevDay 2026 developer conference takes place on Tuesday, September 29 at Fort Mason in San Francisco, with the opening keynote by Sam Altman starting at 10 AM PT (10:30 PM IST) and livestreamed free.
The event is expected to define OpenAI’s agent platform strategy, as Google, Apple, Meta and Microsoft have all launched dedicated agent products in the past month. Developers will be watching for pricing changes and new APIs that make agents easier to build and deploy.
Unverified leaks suggest OpenAI may unveil a persistent “always-on” AI agent codenamed “O” that runs in the background and alerts users at milestones. ChatGPT source code already references “O” as a display name, and the @o handle on X appears suspended. OpenAI has confirmed none of this and urged observers to wait for official announcements.
Ahead of the event, OpenAI retired four legacy models on September 28, pushing developers towards the gpt-5.6-terra replacement. DevDay Exchanges will follow in Bengaluru, Tokyo, Seoul, Paris, Berlin, London, Sao Paulo and Mexico City.
