The Institute for Human Flourishing (IHF), headquartered in India, launched during the United Nations General Assembly high-level week in New York. It is backed by the Rockefeller Foundation, Schmidt Philanthropies and the Government of India.

The institute will work to ensure artificial intelligence raises incomes, expands workers' agency — their power to act freely — and creates opportunities for vulnerable communities.

Founded by Ravi Venkatesan and led by CEO Urvashi Aneja, IHF will run live trials of AI in real workplaces and measure the impact on workers. It will also set up an AI and Jobs Observatory to track how AI affects livelihoods across sectors.

The observatory will track wages, skills, dignity and job security, not just income. The institute also promises to publish results openly, including trials that fail to deliver.

The institute plans to turn its findings into policy playbooks that other countries can copy. India's Expert Group on Human Flourishing has formally endorsed its establishment.

The institute focuses on the Global South, where entry-level IT and outsourcing jobs face growing pressure from automation.
