India face Malaysia in men’s hockey gold medal match today

India face Malaysia in the Asian Games men’s hockey gold medal match today. The final starts at 3:30 PM IST at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara. It will be shown live on the Sony Sports Network and SonyLIV.
India are the defending champions. They reached the final with a dramatic 4-3 win over Pakistan on October 1. India led 3-0 before Pakistan levelled at 3-3. Abhishek scored the winner with 49.2 seconds remaining. Harmanpreet Singh scored twice from penalty corners. Sukhjeet Singh added the third.
Malaysia beat South Korea 2-1 in the other semi-final. Both teams are unbeaten in the tournament. Malaysia topped Pool B with five straight wins.
A win would make India the first team to win back-to-back Asian Games men’s hockey golds. Captain Harmanpreet Singh would become the first Indian captain to lead the team to two Asian Games titles. It would also secure qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics.
Harmanpreet leads India’s scoring with 10 goals. Abhishek and Dilpreet Singh have nine each. For Malaysia, Faizal Saari and Abu Kamal Azrai have nine goals each.
India will miss midfielder Raj Kumar Pal. He fractured his thumb in the pool stage. Nilakanta Sharma replaced him.
