India A held their nerve to salvage a thrilling draw against Australia A in Puducherry on Friday and sealed a 1-0 series win in the unofficial Test series.
Chasing 365, India A finished at 310 for 9 on the final day of the second unofficial Test. Yash Rathod made 80, nightwatchman Tushar Deshpande scored 52 off 119 balls, and player of the series Shams Mulani blocked 131 balls for 26.
Australia A’s Liam Scott took five for 37. With three overs left and one wicket standing, Nachiket Bhute (20 not out) and Praful Hinge (0 off 6) batted out the game to deny the visitors.
India A had won the first unofficial Test by 162 runs, so the draw sealed the series 1-0. Hinge was a substitute for Anshul Kamboj, who was called up to India’s ODI squad to replace the injured Prasidh Krishna.
The hosts finished 55 runs short of a record chase. The result caps a strong home showing for the young side.
