Chennai dengue cases cross 1,775, control drive intensified

Chennai is bracing for a dengue surge, with reported cases crossing 1,775 and 1,290 people affected in September 2026 alone.
The Greater Chennai Corporation has intensified mosquito-control measures, including source reduction and fogging in vulnerable areas, to combat the rise in monsoon-related fevers.
Health officials say the post-monsoon period typically sees a spike in vector-borne diseases as stagnant water creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Residents have been urged to keep surroundings clean and eliminate stagnant water.
The corporation’s field teams are conducting door-to-door checks in high-incidence zones. Hospitals have been asked to report fever cases promptly to track the spread.
Public health experts advise using mosquito nets and repellents, and seeking early medical attention for high fever, severe headache and body pain.
The surge adds to the city’s monsoon health challenges. Officials say sustained source-reduction efforts through October will be key to bringing the numbers down. The civic body has also stepped up awareness campaigns in schools and residential welfare associations.
