OpenAI launches always-on ‘Dots’ agents

OpenAI has launched Dots, always-on AI agents that keep working even after the user closes the tab.
Dots were unveiled at the company’s DevDay 2026 conference in San Francisco on September 29. Each dot runs on the GPT-6 Astra model and gets its own cloud computer and browser.
A dot can connect to more than 4,000 apps through plugins. Users can message it through ChatGPT, Slack or Microsoft Teams. It learns from feedback and brings results back for review.
Dots are rolling out to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium subscribers in eligible markets. The first dot is included at no extra cost. The personal Pro rollout excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK.
OpenAI says a researching dot uses read-only access to apps, and actions are controlled by custom rules and approvals.
DevDay also brought GPT-6.1 Sol at one-fifth of Astra’s price, Codex in the cloud, a faster Ultrafast tier, a Decisions API and the shared workspace ChatGPT Space.
