Here is what is confirmed so far about the flydubai incident that has put an Indian pilot at the centre of an international story. On Wednesday, September 30, a flydubai flight faced a dangerous situation in the air. Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian national working with flydubai, the sister carrier of Emirates, helped keep the aircraft safe. Israeli leaders praised him as a true hero. According to reports, a plumber on board helped steady the plunging aircraft. United States President Donald Trump also called the pilot a hero. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he spoke to Smit’s father Bhupendra, mother Gita and wife Sonal. Modi said the Israeli Prime Minister had remarked that an Indian had prevented a 9/11-style tragedy.
