ECI Extends Electoral Roll Dates in Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya

The Election Commission of India has extended the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya following a meeting of the full commission on September 30.

The meeting at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi was attended by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

In Andhra Pradesh, claims and objections can now be disposed of till October 10, and the final electoral roll will be published on October 16 instead of October 9.

In Meghalaya, the final roll will now be published on October 26 instead of October 21, giving officials more time to complete verification.

The commission said the extensions were granted to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and that the revision exercise is completed with accuracy. The revision exercise has drawn attention in recent weeks, with opposition parties seeking greater transparency.
