IMD: Heavy Rain Likely Over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka

The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over parts of the southern peninsula over the next few days as the monsoon resumes its withdrawal.

Heavy rain is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal for three days, over south interior Karnataka for four days, and over Kerala and Mahe for four days starting Wednesday. Widespread showers are expected over Kerala and Mahe for three days from Thursday.

Coastal Karnataka is also likely to see wet weather for five days starting Tuesday, with the spell persisting for about a week.

The IMD said the residual low over east Uttar Pradesh is weakening as the withdrawal process accelerates, with the wind regime over the Arabian Sea shifting to easterlies around October 7.

The showers mark a final burst of monsoon activity before the full withdrawal, which is expected by mid-October.

The department has advised fishermen and residents in the affected districts to stay alert and follow updates from regional meteorological centres.
