Pound Hits One-Month High After UK Growth Upgrade

The pound rose to a one-month high against the euro on Wednesday after UK growth data was revised up and the prime minister pledged fiscal discipline and closer EU ties.
The Office for National Statistics revised second-quarter growth to 0.5% from 0.4%, continuing a strong start to the year after 0.6% growth in the first quarter.
Sterling climbed to 0.8548 per euro and rose to around $1.33 against the dollar, LSEG data showed.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the Labour conference he would stick to fiscal rules and set out options for EU relations at a UK-EU summit — including a customs union, the single market, or even rejoining.
The signals helped push UK government bond yields lower, with 10-year gilt yields falling to 5.34%.
Money markets now price an 81% chance of a Bank of England rate hike in November, as stronger growth gives policymakers room to act against energy-driven inflation.
