Heavy floods and landslides in Nepal have killed at least 66 people in the Kathmandu region, with 69 still missing and more than 3,000 rescued, according to reports.

The disaster struck in late September after days of intense monsoon rain. In Baglung district, a government building was swept into the Daram River on September 27. Landslides in recent days have killed at least 27 people in hilly areas.

Rescue teams have pulled thousands of people to safety as rivers breached their banks and hillsides collapsed. Relief camps have been set up for displaced families, and the government has promised aid for rebuilding.

Officials said search operations are continuing for the missing. The floods are among the worst Nepal has seen in recent years, exposing the vulnerability of mountain communities to extreme rainfall.

The government has announced compensation for the families of those killed. International aid agencies are also assessing the damage and planning relief support. Roads and bridges damaged by landslides are being repaired to restore access to remote villages.
