Virat Kohli has climbed to second place in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings released on Tuesday, powered by his record 55th one-day international century.

Kohli now has 796 rating points, moving up from third, and trails only India captain Shubman Gill, who leads with 816 points. Gill himself scored 110 in the same match — the first ODI against the West Indies at Thiruvananthapuram — where Kohli's unbeaten 139 off 88 balls, including nine sixes, carried India to an eight-wicket win.

New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell is third with 794 points, just two behind Kohli, while Rohit Sharma is fourth with 753 points. In the bowling charts, Kuldeep Yadav jumped four places to fifth with 623 points after his 4 for 40 in the series opener.

The rankings shuffle sets up an intriguing contest at the top, with Kohli and Gill — teammates and now ranking rivals — separated by just 20 points. India and the West Indies meet in the second ODI in Guwahati later on Tuesday, where both batters will have a chance to strengthen their positions ahead of a busy home season.
