A two-storey municipal ward office building in Nepal’s Baglung district collapsed into the swollen Daram River on Sunday, in dramatic scenes captured on camera. Days of heavy rainfall had triggered a landslide that left the building teetering on an unstable ledge before it slid entirely into the river.

Officials managed to remove important documents and computers from the building in Galkot Municipality before the collapse, and no one was injured, local ward chair Tej Thapa confirmed to the BBC.

The collapse is part of a wider weather emergency across Nepal. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority says landslides and floods have killed at least 27 people over recent days, with 21 deaths recorded between September 24 and 27 alone.

In Baglung district, landslides buried houses across Tamankhola, Nisikhola and Tarakhola rural municipalities, killing 10 people, with one person still missing. Rescue teams, supported by a Nepali Army helicopter, have been deployed to the affected areas.
