The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has crossed 62.16 percent physical progress, according to reports citing official data. The high-speed rail corridor is one of India’s biggest infrastructure projects.

In a key milestone, a 100-metre-long steel bridge weighing 1,405 tonnes was launched over National Highway 3 in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. It is the first steel bridge for the project in the state.

Officials said 16 of the 28 planned steel bridges on the corridor are now complete. The bridges carry the high-speed line over highways, rivers and existing railway tracks.

The 508-km corridor will connect Mumbai and Ahmedabad with trains running at up to 320 kmph. The project is being built with Japanese collaboration.

Work is underway across Gujarat and Maharashtra, with viaducts, tunnels and stations taking shape. The project is expected to transform travel between the two cities when complete. More steel bridges are under fabrication and will be launched in the coming months, officials said.
