The Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) will launch an online portal on October 1 for new solar, wind and hybrid power projects. The portal will accept applications for projects, including those with battery storage.

The application process will have ten stages and will cover grid connectivity requests. Developers must first submit basic project details along with an application fee and a security deposit.

The Superintending Engineer (Solar) will validate each proposal within ten days. Developers will get thirty days to answer any queries. Once accepted, a feasibility report will be prepared, and land documents must follow within six months.

TNGECL aims to add at least 1,500 MW of solar capacity along with battery storage by the end of this financial year. The storage systems should help manage swings in solar output during peak demand.

Industry players have welcomed the move but want clarity on forms and documents. K. Venkatachalam of the Renewable Energy Producers Association said the portal would formalise proposals but sought clarity on which formats developers must use.
