Five men arrested on suspicion of breaking into RAF Fairford, the US Air Force base in Gloucestershire, have been released on bail, police have confirmed. The men were detained by Counter Terrorism Policing South East with support from local officers.

The arrests were made under the Terrorism Act 2000 on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism, after reports of intruders entering the base, which is used by the United States Air Force. Officers carried out searches at the site and in surrounding areas.

The pro-Palestinian activist group Palestine Action claimed responsibility for the break-in, saying two of its members had entered the base. The group previously claimed a similar intrusion at RAF Brize Norton.

Police said the investigation remains active and that the five men will remain on bail while inquiries continue. RAF Fairford has been used for years as a forward operating location for American bombers, making it one of the most sensitive US military sites in Britain.
