Typhoon Surigae, known locally as Queenie, exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday, ending its brief presence inside the country as the 17th tropical cyclone of 2026.

The typhoon was last located 1,140 kilometres northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometres per hour and gusts of up to 215 kilometres per hour as it moved east-northeast. Forecasters said it was unlikely to re-enter the country’s monitoring zone.

Surigae did not make landfall in the Philippines, but the intertropical convergence zone it enhanced continued to bring thunderstorms and heavy rain to Palawan, the Visayas and Mindanao.

State weather bureau PAGASA warned residents in affected areas to remain alert for possible flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous regions.

Authorities advised the public to keep monitoring official weather updates, as scattered rains and isolated storms were expected to continue across parts of the country.

Surigae is the seventeenth tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine monitoring zone this year, in what has been an active storm season for the region.
