India’s surfing debut ends without medal at Asian Games
India’s maiden surfing campaign at the Asian Games ended without a medal on Tuesday as 18-year-old Kishore Kumar Anbarasu exited in the men’s shortboard quarter-finals at Tahara. Kishore lost 5.37-8.53 to the Philippines’ Toby Espejon in the last eight, managing 3.00 and 2.37 on his two counting waves.
He had beaten China’s Ma Wensong 9.76-8.80 in the third round to reach the quarter-final after topping his opening heat. Sivaraj Babu, India’s other men’s entrant, fell in round three to the Philippines’ Jayuard Alciso, while Kamali Prakash and Sugar Shanti Gayen were ousted in the women’s third round.
Surfing made its Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya 2026. India earned its quotas through the 2024 Asian Surfing Championships in the Maldives. Surfing made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 and will feature at Los Angeles 2028, giving India’s young surfers a longer-term target. The debut campaign has given India’s squad valuable experience against Asia’s best.
