Indian and Russian troops have begun the 11th edition of the joint military exercise Kazind-2026 in Chhattisgarh. The drill runs through October and focuses on counter-terror and conventional operations.

About 60 Russian soldiers from the 25th Motorised Rifle Brigade are taking part alongside Indian Army personnel. The exercise includes drone warfare, anti-drone operations and electronic warfare, areas both sides want to sharpen.

The two armies will practise joint planning, small-team tactics and the use of unmanned systems in jungle and semi-urban terrain. Officials said the focus is on operating together as a single unit in realistic combat scenarios.

Kazind has been held every year since 2016, with India and Russia taking turns as hosts. The exercise is part of a wider defence partnership that includes equipment purchases and technology sharing.

Defence officials said the drill strengthens trust between the two forces. The closing ceremony will feature a joint validation exercise observed by senior officers from both countries.
