Defending champions India beat South Korea 3-0 in the men’s squash team event at the Asian Games on Monday. The win took India to the top of the group and into the quarterfinals.

Velavan Senthilkumar beat Na Jooyoung 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 in the first match. Abhay Singh then beat Ryu Jeongmin 11-4, 11-7, 11-1. Veer Chotrani sealed the tie with an 11-6, 11-4, 11-2 win over Oh Seojin.

India had beaten China 3-0 earlier in the group stage. The team looked sharp in all three rubbers against Korea.

The women’s team also reached the quarterfinals. They beat Japan 2-1 in a hard fight. Tanvi Khanna won the deciding match 12-10, 11-9, 4-11, 12-10. The women had earlier beaten China 3-0 too.

Both Indian teams will now aim for the semifinals in the coming days.

The men’s team won gold at the last Asian Games. The coaches said the 3-0 scoreline showed the squad’s depth. The women’s team is chasing its first team gold since the event began.
