India’s industrial output grows 8% in August

India’s industrial production grew 8% year-on-year in August 2026. This is the fifth reading under the new data series.
Growth accelerated from a revised 7.4% in July. The data was released by MoSPI and NSO on September 28.
The IIP index stood at 123.3 in August. It was 114.2 a year ago.
Manufacturing grew 9%. It has now grown at 8% or more for three straight months. Electricity and gas supply rose 12.3%.
Water supply, sewerage and waste management grew 6.3%. Mining and quarrying contracted 5.6%.
Among manufacturing groups, 18 of 23 were positive. Electrical equipment grew 30.9%. Other transport equipment rose 25.3%. Motor vehicles grew 25.2%.
Capital goods were up 16.9%. Intermediate goods rose 13.7%. Consumer durables grew 11.1%. All three use-based segments grew in double digits.
The August reading is the fifth under the new data series. Growth has now picked up for two months in a row.
