India’s Gulveer Singh won the silver medal in the men’s 1500m at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Monday, clocking a personal best of 3 minutes 36.72 seconds.

Japan’s Kazuto Iizawa took gold in a Games-record 3:36.35, just 0.37 seconds ahead of Gulveer, while fellow Japanese runner Nagiya Mori claimed bronze in 3:37.92. India’s Yoonus Shah finished ninth in 3:43.88.

The medal is Gulveer’s second of the Games after his silver in the 10,000m earlier in the week. He has become the first Indian to win two Asian Games medals in the men’s 10,000m.

Known as a long-distance specialist, Gulveer surprised many by outpacing middle-distance runners over the shorter event, producing a strong finish on the final lap against a tough field.

The Athletics Federation of India hailed the double podium as one of India’s finest track-and-field performances. Earlier in the day, Vithya Ramraj won bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles, breaking PT Usha’s 42-year-old national record.
