Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate Delhi’s long-awaited Barapullah Phase-3 elevated corridor on Tuesday, alongside Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

The 3.5-km, four-lane corridor links Mayur Vihar Phase-I to Sarai Kale Khan, merging with the existing Barapullah network to create a signal-free route of about 9 km towards AIIMS. Travel time from East Delhi and Noida to AIIMS is expected to drop from 35-40 minutes in peak hours to around 15 minutes.

The project cost about Rs 1,635 crore, roughly Rs 375 crore over the original estimate, after years of delays. First approved in 2014 with construction starting in 2015, it includes an extra-dosed bridge over the Yamuna, Delhi’s 10th road bridge across the river.

PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said it will be India’s first flyover corridor with a dedicated cycle track, along with pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.

Shah will also inaugurate the Mukarba Chowk railway underpass to ease congestion in North Delhi. Officials say the twin openings mark a major push to unclog the capital’s traffic bottlenecks.
