Madonna was the night’s biggest winner at the September 27 MTV Video Music Awards at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, taking home seven Moon Persons including Artist of the Year. The show was hosted by Snoop Dogg.

She won Best Album for Confessions II and Best Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter for “Bring Your Love.” She also collected Best Dance, Best Long Form Video, Best Cinematography and Best Choreography, all for Confessions II – The Film. She opened the show with her first VMA performance in 23 years, an eight-minute Confessions II set with Carpenter and Charli XCX.

Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” plus the inaugural Artist Director Honors, becoming the most-awarded artist in VMA history with 33. BTS took Song of the Year and Best K-Pop for “Swim” plus Best Group, while Lisa won Best Pop for “Dream.”

Tribute segments honored Dolly Parton, Nirvana and George Michael. The ceremony mixed nostalgia with the new generation, and Madonna’s sweep put her firmly back at the center of pop’s biggest night.
