Kohli Hits 55th ODI Ton, Joins Tendulkar at 15,000 Runs
Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 139 off 88 balls powered India to an eight-wicket win over the West Indies in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram on September 27. India chased down 296 in 41.4 overs.
Kohli became only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 15,000 ODI runs, and the fastest, doing it in 303 innings against Tendulkar’s 377. His record-extending 55th ODI century came off just 74 balls. He also equalled Tendulkar’s 60 List A hundreds and his 42 international centuries in India.
The innings featured a personal best of nine sixes plus 10 fours. Kohli added 151 off 132 balls with Shubman Gill, who scored 110 off 108 balls for his 10th ODI century.
Earlier, Kuldeep Yadav’s 4 for 40 restricted the West Indies to 295 for 7, with Justin Greaves scoring a maiden ODI hundred of 101. The win gives India a 1-0 lead in the series and continues their strong home form in white-ball cricket.
